LUHANRI BEKKER (b.1986)

ARTIST PROFILE

Luhanri Bekker is an artist who grew up in Pretoria and later moved to the Western Cape. Her passion for art has always been strong, which is why she chose to pursue a degree in Fine Arts after completing school. Once she graduated, she was signed by her first gallery where she showcased her work for several years. However, when the pandemic struck, she took a break from the gallery scene and started her own small business selling original artwork and print reproductions. During this time, she hosted art workshops and took part in solo and group exhibitions. Although she enjoyed this period, it was not entirely what made her feel alive, which is why she decided to re-enter the gallery scene, where she could fully dedicate herself to creating art.

STATEMENT

“The first demand any work of art makes upon us is to surrender. Look. Listen. Receive. Get yourself out of the way.” – C.S Lewis

This quote talks about how Luhanri approaches the process of creating her art. She takes time to observe and appreciate her surroundings before she starts painting and then lets herself be guided by her intuition.

Luhanri hopes to create moments of connection that allow people to pause and reflect on the beauty of things that are often overlooked in our fast-paced lives.

She uses subject matters like human faces, figures, and landscapes to represent a deeper, spiritual beauty that goes beyond just physical appearances.

The artist weaves messages of peace and serenity into her work, creating a space where viewers can take a moment to pause and feel. She uses soft, muted colours to complement these messages and create a calming atmosphere.

Ultimately, Luhanri wants to help others find a moment of stillness and quiet in a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming.
