Mariano Botas
Artist’s Statement
“My work is, in essence, an exploration of the immensity of the
conditioned world, both collectively and personally. With cartography,
landscapes and linguistic resources, I seek to break and reconstruct
territories with a certain ambiguity that allows the viewer to connect
from a place that is super inherent to that universal fibre that unites
everything.”Biography
Mariano Botas is a renowned Chilean artist currently residing in Santiago. Initially a self-taught artist, Mariano honed his skills through workshops with esteemed Chilean artists such as Eduardo Medici, Raúl Ponce, and Martin Kovensky. After a successful
career as a full-time model in Europe and photographer, he returned to Chile in 2000 to focus
solely on his artistic pursuits. His work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions and projects
throughout South America, and we are honoured to represent him in our portfolio.
Mariano’s art involves putting humans inside abstract landscapes that depict other worlds within and outside our own space and time. He blends traditional pigments of acrylic with synthetic resins and charcoal. A subtle hand-written message often guides the viewer through the experience.
