Artist’s Statement
“My wildly colourful creations dive into my playful imagination, displaying my slightly absurd and whacky perspective in detail. This expression is rooted in celebrating life’s joyous moments through love, my queer identity and highlighting my world with a sense of feeling and seeing life through “rose tinted glasses”. My world is malleable; romantic and manifests play through a theatrical use of colour and composition. The work reverberates laughter and a sense that life is not always so serious.”
Biography
Kyle Jardine (BA live performance & licentiate musical theatre) has a discernibly quirky and playful style, exploring a world that encompasses joyful, innocent & queer themes. Drawing from his experience in stage performance, drag culture and his queer identity, he constructs a beautifully wild, weird and fantastical safe space to immerse oneself in.
His interior scenes stem from his background in story telling where characters, scenes and motifs come to life. Kyle also references architectural influences from his appreciation of heritage and history. His works are confessions of mysterious encounters. The decor, detail and furnishings allude to the peculiar lives of people we want to know.
His use of colour throughout his work, along with characters, print and patterns flow from brush to canvas with ease, highlighting his influence from the world of fashion, costume design and all things theatrical. Inspired to seek out the joyous moments in life, there is an ease in soaking up his creations.
