The Authority of Softness
This Women’s Month, AITY Gallery is proud to present The Authority of Softness— a group exhibition featuring 15 women artists whose work represents a new kind of power: playful, spiritual, conceptual, and energetically feminine.
A New Kind of Power
It brings together a group of women artists whose practices embody a new kind of power — one that is deeply rooted, quietly assured, playful, creative, and spiritually present.
Spanning painting, bronze, fibre, embroidery, clay, and mixed media, these artists explore themes of joy, healing, origin, beauty, and emotional honesty — challenging patriarchal frameworks of art history and authority.
Authority is a Virtue
These works are not soft in the sense of weakness — they are soft in the sense of being porous to truth, open to earth, emotion, myth, and memory.
Each artist channels an authority — a virtue of patience, joy, resilience, honesty, sensuality, or clarity — that contributes to the formation of a collective, sovereign feminine space.
Celebrating Women’s Month
This exhibition honours the longevity and loyalty of the women who have shaped AITY Gallery’s story, as well as their refusal to separate conceptual depth from colour, beauty, and commercial brilliance.
As part of this celebration, AITY Gallery offers complimentary delivery to destinations within South Africa, for the month of August.
